Web hosting review

xneelo

xneelo shows one VAT-inclusive monthly price per web hosting plan, names the company you sign with and its registration number, and explains its money-back guarantee, backups, data centre locations and past incidents clearly. A few things were harder to pin down from the website alone: support response times, CPU and memory for web hosting plans, and a limit for its "unlimited" traffic.

Price over time

No intro price, so nothing jumps at renewal

xneelo shows one price per web hosting plan, with no intro discount and no renewal price. You can pay monthly, quarterly, bi-annually or annually, with 3% off for annual payment. Monthly prices in South African rand, which the site says include VAT, from xneelo.co.za/web-hosting on 21 Oct 2026.

What we found

Each finding links to the xneelo page it came from. Prices are the South African rand prices on xneelo.co.za, which the pages say include VAT.

An AI read xneelo's public pages to write these findings. When something is partly clear or not seen, it may be explained on a page we didn't read, or our scan may have missed it.
Price

Honest pricing

Clear · 10 pts

Web hosting plans show one monthly price, with no intro discount and no separate renewal price. Basic is R99/mo, Standard R149/mo, Advanced R279/mo and Master R439/mo, and the site says "All prices are VAT inclusive." A help article says you can pay by debit order monthly, quarterly, bi-annually or annually, with 3% off for paying annually. Extra disk space is charged at R20 per GB. The terms say fees can change with at least 30 days' notice, and you can end the agreement if you object.

People

Who runs it

Clear · 10 pts

The terms say South African customers sign with xneelo (Pty) Ltd, Unit F Belvedere Office Park, Bella Rosa Street, Durbanville, and customers outside South Africa sign with xneelo Limited in San Gwann, Malta. The PAIA manual gives the registration number 2005/023926/07 for xneelo (Pty) Ltd, and places the same office park in Bellville, Western Cape. The footer says xneelo was formerly Hetzner SA. We didn't see a registration number for the Malta company.

Problems

Uptime in public

Clear · 10 pts

A public status page tracks about ten parts of the service, including web hosting, email, DNS, the control panels and managed servers. Its history page lists past incidents and maintenance by month, from August to October 2026 when we looked, such as outgoing email delays on 12 Oct and a DDoS on one server on 6 Oct. The hosting terms guarantee 99.9% network availability each month, excluding scheduled maintenance. They credit 5% of the monthly fee for every 30 minutes of downtime, up to 100%, if you claim within 48 hours.

People

Reachable support

Partly clear · 5 pts

The contact page lists live chat, phone, email (support@xneelo.com) and tickets through a support portal. Technical chat is available 24/7, and account chat runs 07:00 to midnight SAST on weekdays. Phone lines are open on weekdays from 08:00 to 18:00 SAST for technical support and 08:00 to 17:00 for other queries. We didn't see stated response times for any channel on the pages we read.

Price

Fair terms

Clear · 10 pts

You can cancel within 7 days of ordering for a full hosting refund, and within the first 30 days if you're not happy with the service. The 30-day guarantee excludes third-party costs such as domain registrations, licence fees and traffic. You cancel in the control panel, and the terms ask for one calendar month's notice. After the guarantee period, customers who paid more than a month ahead get back the unused period minus the 30-day notice, as an extension, credit note or bank transfer at xneelo's choice. Services continue on your chosen billing cycle until you cancel, and .za domains renew unless you opt out at least 5 days before.

Data

Backups you can use

Clear · 10 pts

All Web Hosting packages and Managed Servers get daily incremental backups of the home directory and MySQL databases, kept for up to two weeks. Backups don't count toward your disk space. You restore web files and databases yourself with the Restore Backup tool in the control panel, while email and web logs are restored by emailing support. We didn't see whether support restores cost extra, or a way to download a backup file. Self-Managed Servers and xneelo Cloud don't include content backups.

Data

Security basics

Clear · 10 pts

Every web hosting plan includes a free Let's Encrypt SSL/TLS certificate, ModSecurity WAF and DDoS protection. Two-factor login has been mandatory for the xneelo Control Panel since 14 July 2025, using an authenticator app, SMS code or security key; we didn't see backup codes. The security statement says servers run ClamAV and are scanned daily, and all email is scanned for viruses and spam. Cloudbric WAF is a paid add-on at R169/mo, and the statement says xneelo doesn't hold ISO 27001 or SOC 2.

Data

Data location

Clear · 10 pts

The security statement says xneelo has servers in three locations: Samrand (Gauteng), Cape Town and Germany. The data centre page calls Samrand the default hosting location, and the web hosting page says you can choose German or South African servers when you order. A data processing agreement covers POPIA and the GDPR, applies automatically to hosting services, and lists sub-processors with their regions. xneelo Cloud is hosted in South Africa, and one Managed Server plan is in Germany.

Real specs

Partly clear · 5 pts

Web hosting plans list SSD storage, mailboxes, databases and domains as numbers: Basic has 15 GB, 100 mailboxes, 3 databases and 1 domain. We didn't see CPU or memory for web hosting plans. Traffic is "unlimited" on every plan, and a legal page says this means no quota, without a stated limit. Managed Servers, Self-Managed Servers and Cloud instances list CPU, RAM and storage, from a 1 vCPU, 1 GB Cloud instance at R73/mo.

Product

Easy exit

Clear · 10 pts

A help article walks through downloading your site files with FileZilla or the File Manager and exporting databases with phpMyAdmin. For domains, xneelo gives you the authorisation code after you cancel, or when you contact support, and .co.za domains don't need a code. The domain terms say you can transfer to another registrar at any time outside the grace period. We didn't see a fee for moving a domain away. Ending a hosting service may delete your data, so export first.

What you get per plan

These numbers come from the Web Hosting plan table on xneelo.co.za; the Master plan (R439/mo) has 100 GB, 20 domains, 1000 mailboxes and 40 databases. CPU and memory for web hosting weren't on the pages we read; Managed Servers, Self-Managed Servers and Cloud do list them. Bars compare each row against the largest plan.

Tech stack

Best for WordPress and PHP sites

Hosts are built for different kinds of sites. Here is what xneelo says it runs, and on which plans. Tech fit is separate from the signal score.

Best fit: tools built for it on regular plansSupported: runs on some plans, with limitsVPS plans: you set it up yourself on a server

WordPress

Best fit

Every web hosting plan has an easy WordPress install, and the control panel includes a WordPress Installer. The help centre has 22 WordPress articles, including one on moving a WordPress site to xneelo through the control panel. We didn't see staging, WP-CLI or a separate managed WordPress plan.

Plans: All web hosting plans

PHP

Best fit

Shared hosting and Managed Servers run Debian 13, Apache 2.4 and MariaDB 10.11, with PHP 8.2 to 8.5 switchable in the control panel. The control panel has PHP Config, a Cronjob Manager and MySQL tools. On shared hosting you ask support to turn on SSH, and only the main FTP user gets it. We didn't see Git on the pages we read.

Plans: All web hosting plans

Python

VPS plans

The software list says Perl and Python are installed on web hosting servers but are "not technically supported", so xneelo doesn't promise they will run well. On Self-Managed Servers or xneelo Cloud you install your own Linux system and versions.

Plans: Self-Managed Servers and xneelo Cloud

Node.js

VPS plans

We didn't see Node.js on the web hosting or Managed Server pages we read. Self-Managed Servers come with full root access and AlmaLinux, Debian, Ubuntu or Windows, from R1 295/mo, and Cloud instances start at R73/mo.

Plans: Self-Managed Servers and xneelo Cloud

Docker & containers

VPS plans

We didn't see Docker or Kubernetes mentioned on the Cloud or server pages we read. xneelo Cloud offers Linux images billed by the hour, and Self-Managed Servers give full root access, so you would set up containers yourself.

Sales practices

Worth a closer look

We check five common sales practices and note them next to the score, without changing it. Two need a pass through checkout, which this scan didn't do. We'll add them on the next recheck.

  • Noticed
"Unlimited" without a stated limit. Web hosting plans list unlimited traffic and parked domains. A legal page says unlimited means no quota, that the threshold is hard to set upfront, and that sites overloading a shared server may be moved or suspended, without a number.
  • Not checked yet
Add-ons ticked for you at checkout. This scan didn't go through checkout.
  • Not checked yet
Prices that change at the payment step. Listed prices include VAT, per the site. Servers carry separate setup fees, shown on their plan pages. We didn't check the final checkout total.
  • Not noticed
Countdown timers that reset. No timers or limited-time offers on the pages we read.
  • Not noticed
Reviews with no source. The homepage and web hosting page show average ratings from Trustpilot, Google and HelloPeter, each naming its platform.
