Upsun has no plans, no intro price and no renewal price: the pricing page says "No plans. No bundles." and lists one price per resource. Each project costs €9.00/mo and each user licence €10.00/mo, plus compute from €0.033 per hour for a shared application CPU and €0.013 per hour per GB of memory, and disk at €0.49 per GB a month. Usage is counted per second and billed monthly, after a 15-day free trial with no card. Support and SLA add-ons need a 12-month minimum. The pricing page doesn't mention tax; the terms say all fees exclude tax.
Web hosting review
Upsun
Upsun, which its About page calls the new name for Platform.sh, is a container-based cloud application platform for PHP, Node.js, Python and other runtimes, billed per second. Its site clearly explains per-resource prices, the companies you sign with, support response times, backups, regions and CPU and memory sizes. A few things were harder to pin down from the website alone: incident history, since the status page didn't load its data for us, refund and renewal rules, and malware protection.

Price over time
No intro price, so nothing jumps at renewal
Upsun has no plans: it shows one price per resource, with no intro discount and no renewal price. Usage is counted per second and billed monthly, with no minimum term except for support, SLA and HIPAA add-ons, which need 12 months. Compute, disk and bandwidth come on top of the fees below. Monthly prices in euros from upsun.com/pricing on 21 Oct 2026; the page has a currency selector and doesn't mention tax, and the terms say fees exclude tax.

What we found
Each finding links to the Upsun page it came from. Prices are the euro prices on upsun.com/pricing, which doesn't mention tax; the terms say all fees exclude tax.
The terms say the company you sign with depends on your billing address. Customers in France and any country not listed sign with Platform.sh SAS, doing business as Upsun, at 22 rue de Palestro, 75002 Paris. The Impressum gives its Paris trade register number (RCS B 521 496 059), SIRET and VAT number, and lists the German, Spanish, UK, US, Canadian and Australian companies with their addresses and most registration numbers. The About page says the company started in 2009 as The Commerce Guys, became Platform.sh in 2015 and was renamed Upsun in 2025.
The service terms point to a public status page at status.upsun.com, with planned maintenance posted at least 5 days ahead and email updates. When we opened it, the page showed only "Loading..." and no components, incidents or history, so we couldn't see past incidents. It offers email alerts per region and an RSS feed. The default target is a best-effort 99.5% a month for production; 99.9% and 99.99% SLAs with service credits of 3% to 50% are paid add-ons that need Advanced or Premium support and a 12-month term.
Every organization gets Standard support through tickets in the Console, plus a community forum. Standard aims to answer urgent (P1) tickets within 4 hours, 24/7, on a best-effort basis, with no stated time for other tickets. Advanced support (+15% of spend) promises 1 hour for P1, 24/7, and 6 or 12 hours for other tickets in business hours, Monday to Friday 00:00 to 23:59 UTC. Premium (+19%) promises 30 minutes, 3 hours and 8 hours, all 24/7. We didn't see chat or phone support, or the languages support works in.
There is a 15-day free trial, after which projects are suspended until you add a payment method. The FAQ says you can end a project or account at any time if you're not on a yearly term, and the docs show how to delete a project, after which you're billed only for the part of the month it was active. The terms give 30 days' notice of price changes and pro-rata refunds of prepaid fees only in a few cases, such as a materially worse change to the service. We didn't see a money-back period, a general refund rule, or whether 12-month add-ons renew automatically.
By default the production environment gets 1 automated backup a day, kept for 2 days. You can set your own schedules per environment type, for example 7 daily, 4 weekly and 12 monthly backups, and manual backups are kept until you delete or replace them. Admins restore a backup themselves from the Console or CLI, also into another environment. Backup storage costs €0.10 per GB a month, and we didn't see a separate restore fee. The docs say backups can't be downloaded; the features page describes the default as 2 daily automated and 2 manual backups.
Let's Encrypt certificates are free and automatic for every environment, renew 28 days before they expire, and HTTP is redirected to HTTPS. The docs recommend multifactor login, and organization owners can enforce it; the pricing page lists MFA enforcement and SSO under advanced user management at +€9.00 per user a month. The FAQ lists DDoS protection at layers 3 and 4 and a WAF, and the trust center lists ISO 27001, SOC 2 Type 2 and PCI DSS Level 1. We didn't see malware scanning, or which MFA methods are supported, on the pages we read.
The regions page lists 12 regions by city, including Dublin, Frankfurt, Paris, Gravelines, London, Stockholm and Zurich in Europe, and marks six lower-carbon regions that get a 3% credit. The FAQ says you can choose where production is hosted and move it to another region. A data processing agreement covers the GDPR, UK law and Swiss law, and forms part of the terms with no separate signature. It uses EU standard contractual clauses and the UK transfer addendum, and the privacy notice adds the Data Privacy Framework for the US company. The regions page doesn't say which cloud provider runs each region.
There are no fixed plans: you set CPU, memory, disk and instance count for each container. Shared CPU runs from 0.1 to 8 CPU and guaranteed CPU from 2 to 64 CPU, and the docs give the memory for each size and profile, for example 1 CPU with 384 MB on HIGH_CPU or 1,920 MB on BALANCED. Each project includes 10 GB of egress and 500,000 requests a month, then €0.03 per GB and €1.00 per 100,000 requests. The trial's "unlimited containers and users" comes with caps of 4.5 CPU, 12 GB of memory and 20 GB of storage.
Your code deploys from your own Git repository, so it stays with you. The CLI exports a database to a local file with upsun db:dump, and lists mount:download for files, though the pages we read don't describe it. The backup docs say backups can't be downloaded and point you to exporting mount and service data instead. The terms say you're responsible for keeping your content, Upsun deletes it without undue delay after termination, and EU customers can ask for switching under an EU Data Act addendum. We didn't see domain registration or a fee for leaving.
What you get per plan
Upsun has no fixed plans, so these are three shared-CPU sizes for one app container, from the resource configuration docs. Memory depends on the container profile; PHP, Node.js and Python default to HIGH_CPU. Bars compare each row against the largest size.
| Limit | 0.5 CPU | 1 CPU | 8 CPU |
|---|---|---|---|
| Memory, HIGH_CPU profile (MB) | 224 MB | 384 MB | 2,240 MB |
| Memory, BALANCED profile (MB) | 1,088 MB | 1,920 MB | 7,296 MB |
| Memory, HIGH_MEMORY profile (MB) | 1,408 MB | 2,432 MB | 11,200 MB |
| Disk | You set it, €0.49 per GB a month | You set it, €0.49 per GB a month | You set it, €0.49 per GB a month |

Tech stack
Best for PHP, Node.js and Python apps
Hosts are built for different kinds of sites. Here is what Upsun says it runs, and on which plans. Tech fit is separate from the signal score.
PHP
Best fitPHP 8.4 and 8.5 are supported, with 8.2 and 8.3 marked deprecated, and Composer runs at build time. The docs say all major PHP frameworks can be deployed and have guides for Laravel and Symfony; the homepage also names Drupal and Magento.
Plans: All projects, priced by resourceNode.js & Python
Best fitThe composable image lists Node.js 20 to 26 and Python 3.11 to 3.14, alongside Go, Java, Ruby, Elixir, Bun and others. You configure each app in .upsun/config.yaml, deploy from Git and get SSH access to the app container.
Plans: All projects, priced by resourceWordPress
SupportedWordPress runs as an app you configure yourself, with Composer-based, Bedrock, vanilla and Multisite guides and a MariaDB service. App containers are read-only apart from upload and cache folders, and Source Operations can run plugin and core updates on a test branch. We didn't see managed WordPress features like a dedicated control panel.
Plans: All projects, self-configuredDocker & containers
SupportedEvery app and service runs in its own container. A Docker image type runs any image from a public registry, under 4 GB and without build hooks, and you patch those images yourself. The pages we read don't mention Dockerfiles or private registries.
Plans: All projects, priced by resourceStatic sites
SupportedStatic sites need a minimal app container that serves the generator's output folder, with the start command set to sleep to save resources. The docs don't mention a CDN for this; Fastly CDN is a paid add-on on the pricing page.
Plans: All projects, as an app containerSales practices
Worth a closer look
We check five common sales practices and note them next to the score, without changing it. Two need a pass through checkout, which this scan didn't do. We'll add them on the next recheck.
- Not noticed"Unlimited" without a stated limit. The FAQ says the free trial includes "unlimited containers and users", and gives its caps of 4.5 CPU, 12 GB of memory and 20 GB of storage. Paid resources are listed with numbers and prices.
- Not checked yetAdd-ons ticked for you at checkout. This scan didn't go through checkout. The pricing page lists support, SLA, CDN, WAF and other add-ons separately, each with its own price or percentage.
- Not checked yetPrices that change at the payment step. The pricing page doesn't mention tax, and the terms say all fees exclude tax. A first-project incentive covers up to $19/mo, stated in dollars next to euro prices. We didn't check a final invoice.
- Not noticedCountdown timers that reset. No timers on the pages we read. Banners offer 15 free days on Cloud and 20 free Dispatch minutes a day.
- Not noticedReviews with no source. The one homepage quote carries a full name, job title and company. Other customer references are logos and case studies.
Questions to ask Upsun
Each partly clear or unseen signal leaves a question that the website didn't answer for us. Upsun's support can probably answer them before you buy.
