UpCloud has no intro price and no renewal price: the listed price is what you keep paying. Starter Cloud Servers start at €3/mo (1 GB memory, 1 vCPU, 10 GB storage), Premium at €5/mo and Cloud Native at €12/mo. Plans are billed by the starting hour, up to 28 days a month, and the FAQ says the hourly rate is the monthly price divided by 672 hours, taken from a prepaid balance. Prices exclude local taxes, which the FAQ says are added when you top up. The pricing page also says prices for older plans, Standard and Archive storage and Windows licences change on 16 Nov 2026, and the terms promise 30 days' notice before a price rise.
Web hosting review
UpCloud
UpCloud is a Finnish cloud server provider, billed by the hour from a prepaid balance. Its site clearly explains prices, the company behind it, support levels with response times, data centre locations, incident history and its terms. A few things were harder to pin down from the website alone: a way to download backups or disk images, whether restores cost anything, malware protection, and how to close an account yourself.

What we found
Each finding links to the UpCloud page it came from. Prices are the euro prices on upcloud.com, which the pricing page says exclude local taxes; US-dollar prices are on upcloud.com/global.
The terms say you sign with UpCloud Oy, a Finnish limited liability company with business ID 2431560-5, at Aleksanterinkatu 15 B, 7th floor, 00100 Helsinki. The privacy notice names the same company, ID and address as data controller. The About page says UpCloud was formed in 2011 as a spin-off of the Finnish hosting company Sigmatic, with founder Joel Pihlajamaa as CEO. The footer uses the name UpCloud Ltd, and the contact page lists email addresses but no postal address or phone number.
A public status page shows the control panel, API and website, plus each of the 15 data centres broken out by service. Its history feed went back to 25 Aug 2026 when we looked, with resolved incidents such as a File Storage issue in Helsinki (FI-HEL2) on 28 Sep and an Object Storage issue in Singapore on 13 Oct, alongside planned maintenance. The pricing page promises 99.99% uptime for Starter plans and 99.999% for Premium and Cloud Native. The SLA in the terms pays credits of 50 times the fees for an outage longer than five minutes, claimed through support within 15 days.
Technical support is available 24/7/365 by live chat in the control panel and on the website, and by email at support@upcloud.com. The support page lists three levels with response times: Essentials answers service requests in under 4 hours and incidents in under 2 hours, Advanced in under 1 hour and 30 minutes, and Enterprise in under 10 and 5 minutes. The FAQ says chat replies average under 2 minutes. We didn't see prices for the higher levels, or which level is included by default. Support is in English only.
The free trial docs give a 30-day money-back guarantee on your first payment, up to €500, which you request from support. Otherwise the terms say credits are non-refundable and can't be transferred, and promotional credits can't be withdrawn. There is no fixed term to renew: usage is billed hourly from your balance, and automatic top-ups are optional. You can end the agreement for any reason with five days' written notice, while UpCloud gives you at least 30 days. The trial docs describe a 7-day trial, while the homepage advertises €500 of credit for 30 days.
Simple Backup is a paid add-on for every Cloud Server plan, from +10% of the plan price for daily backups kept 24 hours, to +60% for the Year plan, which keeps 7 daily, 4 weekly and 12 monthly backups. Flexible Backups let you set your own schedule and keep backups from 1 day up to 3 years, and on-demand backups stay until you delete them. You restore a storage device yourself in the server's Backups tab, or clone a backup to a new disk to get at single files. We didn't see a restore fee, or a way to download backups. The terms say keeping copies outside UpCloud is your job.
Account two-factor login works with an authenticator app, with one-time codes by SMS or phone call as a fallback. The firewall for Cloud Servers is included at no extra cost, and the security page says UpCloud protects its network against DDoS attacks and encrypts data at rest. Load Balancers and static sites on Object Storage get TLS certificates automatically; on a Cloud Server, the WordPress guide installs one with Certbot. The compliance page links an ISO 27001 certificate. We didn't see malware scanning for servers on the pages we read.
The data centres page lists 15 locations in 12 countries, 10 of them in Europe, including Amsterdam, Frankfurt and two in Helsinki. You choose the data centre, and the security page says your data stays there unless you ask to move it. The data processing agreement for the GDPR is part of the terms. It says the nine EU and Norwegian sites are run by UpCloud Oy with no subprocessors, while London, the US, Singapore and Sydney use UpCloud affiliates under EU standard contractual clauses where needed.
Every Cloud Server plan on the pricing page lists memory, vCPUs and storage as numbers next to its monthly price; Starter plans also list a network speed of 250 or 500 Mbit/s. The €3 Starter plan has 1 GB of memory, 1 vCPU and 10 GB of storage. Transfer is "included" up to a fair transfer limit that the docs list per plan, from 0.5 TB a month on the smallest plans. Above it, UpCloud may slow servers to 100 Mbit/s, or you can opt in to pay €0.01 per GB. We didn't see "unlimited" used for any resource.
The terms set out a switching process: after written notice there is a 30-day transition period, which can be extended up to six months, and an optional retrieval period of up to 30 days. We didn't see a switching fee, and outbound transfer is free within the fair transfer limit. We didn't see a way to download a disk image or backup; the docs only describe cloning a backup to a new disk. The FAQ says you erase your account by emailing UpCloud, and the terms say your data is deleted after the agreement ends. UpCloud doesn't host DNS for your domains, and we didn't see domain registration, so there is no domain to transfer out.
What you get per plan
All numbers come from the UpCloud pricing page and the network transfer docs. These are three Starter Cloud Server plans; the 2 GB and 4 GB plans shown are the 2 vCPU versions. Bars compare each row against the largest plan.

Worth a closer look
We check five common sales practices and note them next to the score, without changing it. Two need a pass through checkout, which this scan didn't do. We'll add them on the next recheck.
- Not noticed"Unlimited" without a stated limit. We didn't see "unlimited" on the pages we read. Transfer is "included" up to a fair transfer limit that the docs list per plan.
- Not checked yetAdd-ons ticked for you at checkout. This scan didn't go through checkout. The docs describe backups as a plan you set per server.
- Not checked yetPrices that change at the payment step. Listed prices exclude local taxes, which the FAQ says are added when you top up your balance. We didn't check a payment.
- Not noticedCountdown timers that reset. No timers or sale banners on the pages we read. The pricing page announces price changes for older plans from 16 Nov 2026.
- Not noticedReviews with no source. The customer quotes on the homepage carry a name, job title and company. We didn't see star ratings or review badges.
