Web hosting review

TransIP

TransIP shows one monthly price per plan with no intro discount, names the company you sign with, and explains support hours, backups, cancellation and how to take your data with you clearly. A few things were harder to pin down: past incidents on its status page, CPU and memory for web hosting plans, and which data centre web hosting runs in. The site says prices exclude VAT, while the terms say consumer prices include it.

No intro price, so nothing jumps at renewal

TransIP shows one price per plan, with no intro discount and no renewal price. Services run for one month and renew automatically each month. Monthly prices in euros, which the page says exclude VAT, from transip.eu/webhosting on 20 Oct 2026. The terms say prices for consumers include VAT.

What we found

Each finding links to the TransIP page it came from. Prices are the euro prices on transip.eu, which the pages mark as excluding VAT.

An AI read TransIP's public pages to write these findings. When something is partly clear or not seen, it may be explained on a page we didn't read, or our scan may have missed it.
Price

Honest pricing

Clear · 10 pts

Web hosting plans show one monthly price, with no intro discount and no separate renewal price. Core is €9.99/mo, Pro €15.99/mo and Max €29.99/mo. The terms say services other than domains and SSL run for one month and renew automatically each month. The pages say "Prices exclude VAT", while the terms say prices for consumers include VAT, so the two read differently. Prices can change with one month's notice, and you can cancel if you disagree, except for changes from inflation or supplier costs.

The contact page lists the office at Vondellaan 47, 2332 AA Leiden, Chamber of Commerce number 24345899 (Leiden) and VAT number NL812334966B01. The privacy policy names TransIP B.V. at the same Leiden address and number. The terms name TransIP B.V. with the same number, but say it is established in Amsterdam. The About page says TransIP has been around since 2003, and the footer reads "TransIP by team.blue".

A help article names TransNOC (transnoc.nl) as the status page for current disruptions, and says resolved disruptions stay on the page. When we looked it said "All services are online", and we didn't see past incidents in what we could read. The availability page guarantees 99.99% uptime per month for VPS, with credits capped at one month's price, and offers compensation on other services for outages longer than two hours. The terms say TransIP doesn't guarantee uninterrupted operation unless the agreement says so.

People

Reachable support

Clear · 10 pts

Customers send questions as a ticket from the control panel, and non-customers can email sales@transip.eu. Specialists are available on weekdays from 8:00 to midnight, and on weekends and holidays from 9:00 to 19:00, with answers promised within 60 minutes. A help article says support is not reachable by phone, and we didn't see live chat. Network failures can be reported by email 24 hours a day.

Consumers can withdraw within 14 days and get their payments back within 14 days. This doesn't apply to domain registrations, SSL validation or business customers. Services renew automatically each month (domains each year), and you cancel in the control panel under My Account, Services, choosing "End of contract" or "Immediately". The help article sets a notice period of one month before the renewal date. Cancelling immediately gives no refund for the rest of the period, and the terms say fixed-term business contracts aren't refunded either.

Data

Backups you can use

Clear · 10 pts

Web hosting backs up files and databases every hour for the first 24 hours, then daily. Core keeps 14 days and Pro and Max keep 30 days. You restore the last 14 days yourself in the control panel, free of charge, support restores days 15 to 30, and restored files and databases can be downloaded. Email isn't part of these backups. The web hosting page also says you can roll back up to 10 days, which reads differently, and VPS backups are an add-on listed at €5/mo.

Security basics

Every web hosting plan includes a free SSL certificate for your domain and its subdomains. The account supports two-factor login with an authenticator app; we didn't see backup codes, and the help article says to email support if you lose access. Malware and vulnerability scanning is Patchman, a paid add-on that scans WordPress, Joomla and Drupal sites daily and can patch known issues. It doesn't scan plugins or themes yet, and we didn't see its price on the pages we read.

Data

Data location

Partly clear · 5 pts

The VPS infrastructure pages name two data centres in the Netherlands: Amsterdam (AMS0) and RTM0, which one page places in Alblasserdam and another in Delft. The terms say TransIP works from various locations in the Netherlands. We didn't see which data centre web hosting runs in, or whether you can choose. A data processor agreement can be viewed, downloaded and signed in the control panel. The help article mentions the GDPR, but we didn't see a list of sub-processors.

Web hosting plans list storage, websites, mailboxes and databases as numbers: Core has 20 GB, 1 website and 5 mailboxes of 2 GB. We didn't see CPU or memory for web hosting plans. Data traffic is "unlimited" on every plan, and Max lists unlimited databases, without a stated limit. The terms let TransIP suspend services under excessive load. VPS plans list vCPUs, RAM and 100 GB NVMe storage, from V1 with 1 vCPU and 1 GB RAM at €5/mo.

A data export page lists how to get data out of each service: website files over SFTP or the file manager, databases through phpMyAdmin, and backups from the control panel. Help articles walk through downloading your site over SFTP and exporting a database as SQL. To move a domain, you reveal its authorization code under Domains in the control panel. We didn't see a fee for moving a domain away, and the terms say TransIP will help with a move to another provider after valid termination. Cancelling web hosting deletes files, databases and email, so export first.

What you get per plan

These numbers come from the Web Hosting plan table on transip.eu. CPU and memory for web hosting weren't on the pages we read; VPS plans do list them. Bars compare each row against the largest plan.

Tech stack

Best for WordPress and PHP sites

Hosts are built for different kinds of sites. Here is what TransIP says it runs, and on which plans. Tech fit is separate from the signal score.

Best fit: tools built for it on regular plansSupported: runs on some plans, with limitsVPS plans: you set it up yourself on a server

WordPress

Best fit

Every web hosting plan has a one-click WordPress install, Varnish cache and free SSL, and the WordPress page sells the same Core, Pro and Max plans. SSH includes WP-CLI for updating WordPress, plugins and themes. We didn't see staging or a migration service; the migration guide describes moving a site by hand.

Plans: All web hosting plans

PHP

Best fit

Web hosting supports PHP 8.0 to 8.4, which you switch in the control panel. Every plan lists SSH, SFTP and Git integration with AutoGit. The help center says you can use scripts suited to Unix systems with PHP, as long as they don't use too much processing power.

Docker & Kubernetes

VPS plans

TransIP offers Kubernetes for running Docker containers, with a free managed control plane and data stored in the Netherlands. Nodes start at €5/mo for 1 vCPU, 1 GB RAM and 25 GB, excluding VAT, billed by the minute. The VPS page doesn't mention Docker.

Sales practices

Worth a closer look

We check five common sales practices and note them next to the score, without changing it. Two need a pass through checkout, which this scan didn't do. We'll add them on the next recheck.

  • Noticed
"Unlimited" without a stated limit. Web hosting plans list unlimited data traffic and domain aliases, and Max lists unlimited databases, with no limit on the plan pages. The terms let TransIP suspend services under excessive load, and the VPS page says it only steps in on traffic that is clearly abusive.
  • Not checked yet
Add-ons ticked for you at checkout. This scan didn't go through checkout.
  • Not checked yet
Prices that change at the payment step. Listed prices exclude VAT, while the terms say consumer prices include it. We didn't check the final checkout total.
  • Not noticed
Countdown timers that reset. No timers or limited-time offers on the pages we read.
  • Not noticed
Reviews with no source. The WordPress page shows three short quotes, each with a person's or company name, without a link or date.
