Web hosting plans show one monthly price, and the page says "The prices of our web hosting packages are valid for the entire term". Webhosting 1000 is €2.69/mo, 2000 €4.03/mo, 4000 €8.10/mo and 8000 €13.17/mo, including 19% German VAT, which changes with your country. The plan pages list a 12-month minimum contract and no setup fee. VPS and root servers come with 1, 12 or 24-month terms, with longer terms marked 13% and 26% cheaper; VPS 500 G12.5 is €7.03/mo on the 24-month term. The terms let netcup change prices at the start of a billing period with six weeks' notice, and you may then cancel; the September 2026 price change applies to new orders only.
Web hosting review
netcup
netcup is a German host for web hosting, VPS and root servers. Its site clearly explains who runs it, its flat prices, past incidents on a public status page, backups, data centre locations, the GDPR agreement and how to take your data with you. A few things were harder to pin down: support response times, refunds after the 30-day guarantee, malware scanning for websites, and CPU and memory for web hosting plans.

No intro price, so nothing jumps at renewal
netcup shows one price per web hosting plan and says it is valid for the entire term, with no intro discount and no separate renewal price. The plan pages list a 12-month minimum contract and no setup fee. Monthly prices in euros, including 19% German VAT, from netcup.com/en/hosting on 21 Oct 2026; the VAT rate changes with your country.

What we found
Each finding links to the netcup page it came from. Prices are the euro prices on netcup.com/en, which the pages show including 19% German VAT and say vary by country of residence.
The imprint names netcup GmbH at Emmy-Noether-Straße 10, 76131 Karlsruhe, Germany. It gives the register entry HRB 705547 at Amtsgericht Mannheim, the VAT number DE262851304, and two managing directors by name. The terms say contracts are with netcup GmbH. The About page says netcup started as a one-man business, became netcup GmbH in 2008, and has been part of the Austrian Anexia group since 2016.
The public status page at netcup-status.de lists disruptions and maintenance by date, each tagged with a system such as Network, Root-Server, vServer or Webhosting. When we looked it showed open items from 21 Oct 2026, resolved incidents back to 1 Sep 2026, and a link to older entries. Most entries are in German, with English versions for some. We didn't see uptime percentages there. The terms guarantee 99.6% average yearly availability, root servers list 99.9%, and the VPS page says the 99.9% guarantee isn't included with VPS.
You open a support ticket through a form, answered Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 22:00 Berlin time. Phone support runs Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 17:00 on +49 721 754 0 755 0, with a separate emergency number outside those hours. A chatbot answers questions around the clock, and support is offered in English and German. We didn't see stated response times; the page says netcup strives to answer "as quickly as possible".
Web hosting and root servers have a 30-day satisfaction guarantee on first orders, with a full refund of the basic fee; it doesn't cover deals or VPS. Consumers also have a 14-day right of withdrawal, except for domain registrations, and business customers don't. You cancel in the Customer Control Panel under the product's Cancellation tab, or with an online form. Notice is one month to the end of a month, and not before the minimum term ends; for business customers a 24-month minimum term extends by 12 months unless cancelled. We didn't see whether unused prepaid fees are refunded after a normal cancellation.
On web hosting, netcup makes daily backups of website files, emails and databases, for files up to 10 GB, and keeps them for 7 days. Support restores files, databases or emails from those backups for a fee, but we didn't see the amount. From Webhosting 2000, the Backup Manager lets you schedule your own daily backups, download them and restore them yourself; it doesn't include email. For VPS and root servers the pages list snapshots but no backup service, and the terms say backups are the customer's job unless agreed.
Every web hosting plan includes free Let's Encrypt certificates for all domains and subdomains. The Customer Control Panel always asks for a second step: an emailed code by default, or a code from an authenticator app. SMS and YubiKey aren't supported, and we didn't see recovery codes. Servers from Generation 12 get a free firewall, DDoS protection is included, and email has spam and virus filters. We didn't see malware scanning for websites.
netcup names five server locations: Nuremberg, Vienna, Amsterdam, Manassas (USA) and Singapore. You pick the location when you order: web hosting offers Vienna, Nuremberg or Manassas, and VPS adds Amsterdam, Singapore and "No preference Europe". The FAQ says a plan can't be moved to another location later. You create a GDPR data processing agreement yourself in the Customer Control Panel, free of charge with an electronic signature. We didn't see a sub-processor list for hosted data.
Web hosting plan pages list web space, databases, mailboxes, cron jobs and the PHP memory limit as numbers: Webhosting 1000 has 25 GB, 1 database and 128 MB per PHP process. The hosting overview lists double the web space, such as 50 GB for Webhosting 1000, so the two read differently. We didn't see CPU or RAM for web hosting; the overview mentions "guaranteed RAM" without figures, and traffic is "included and free of charge" without a figure. VPS plans list vCores, RAM and storage, from 2 vCores, 4 GB and 64 GB on VPS 500, with traffic slowed to 200 Mbps if the 24-hour average passes 2 TB.
A help article shows how to zip and download your site files in the File Manager, or use FTP for larger sites, and how to export a database dump in the Webhosting Control Panel. From Webhosting 2000, Backup Manager backups can be downloaded too. To move a domain away, you request the Auth-Code on the domain's Cancellation tab in the Customer Control Panel; it stays valid for 30 days, and you must finish the transfer before the cancellation date. Domains included with web hosting can only be cancelled through support. We didn't see a fee for moving a domain away, and server snapshot exports are only shown for reuse on your own netcup servers.
What you get per plan
These numbers come from the web hosting plan pages on netcup.com (Webhosting 1000 in Manassas, 2000 and 4000 in Vienna). The hosting overview lists double the web space, so both are shown. CPU and RAM for web hosting weren't on the pages we read. Bars compare each row against the largest plan.
| Limit | Webhosting 1000 | Webhosting 2000 | Webhosting 4000 |

Tech stack
Best for PHP sites, with servers you run yourself
Hosts are built for different kinds of sites. Here is what netcup says it runs, and on which plans. Tech fit is separate from the signal score.
PHP
Best fitEvery web hosting plan runs PHP 7.2 to 8.5, which you switch yourself, with FastCGI and an opcode cache. Plans include SSH, Git and cron jobs, from 1 cron job on Webhosting 1000 to 25 on 4000 and 8000. The PHP memory limit rises from 128 MB per process on 1000 to 512 MB on 2000 and 4000.
Plans: All web hosting plansWordPress
SupportedWordPress installs as an app from the control panel, with automatic updates and the WordPress Toolkit listed on the plan pages. We didn't see a separate managed WordPress plan or a migration service.
Plans: All web hosting plansNode.js
SupportedNode.js and Ruby on Rails are listed on Webhosting 4000 and 8000; the 1000 and 2000 pages say they start with 4000. We didn't see a help article on setting up Node.js.
Plans: Webhosting 4000 and 8000Python
SupportedPython runs on Webhosting 4000 and 8000 through Phusion Passenger, so apps must follow the WSGI standard, and the guide points to Flask. You set it up in the control panel under Dev Tools. Python can't be run from SSH, the command line or cron jobs.
Plans: Webhosting 4000 and 8000Docker & containers
VPS plansWeb hosting doesn't list Docker. VPS plans use KVM, take your own images and ISO files, and the VPS page mentions container environments, from VPS 500 at €7.03/mo on a 24-month term.
Plans: VPS and root serversSales practices
Worth a closer look
We check five common sales practices and note them next to the score, without changing it. Two need a pass through checkout, which this scan didn't do. We'll add them on the next recheck.
- Not noticed"Unlimited" without a stated limit. The only "unlimited" item we saw is the number of free SSL certificates. Web hosting traffic is "included and free of charge" without a figure, and VPS traffic is a flat rate slowed to 200 Mbps above a 2 TB daily average.
- Not checked yetAdd-ons ticked for you at checkout. This scan didn't go through checkout.
- Not checked yetPrices that change at the payment step. Listed prices include 19% German VAT and change with your country. The VPS 500 page adds €1.04/mo for a named European or US location and €7.66/mo for Singapore. We didn't check the final checkout total.
- Not noticedCountdown timers that reset. No countdown timers in the pages we read. The deals page says deals usually run 24 to 72 hours, and flash deals 2 to 4 hours.
- Not noticedReviews with no source. The pages show awards by name and year, and link to outside review sites. The experience reports page has no customer quotes.
