Web hosting review

Namecheap

Namecheap explains its backups, security basics, data centres and how to leave in clear help articles, and its status feed lists past incidents and maintenance. Some things were harder to pin down: whether prices include tax, support response times, and the limits behind "unmetered" storage and bandwidth. Renewal prices are shown on some pages but not clearly on the main shared hosting plan cards.

Price over time

Renewal prices are about 2 times the intro price

Intro prices are for a yearly term, after a 30-day free trial on shared plans. Namecheap shows renewal prices per year; we divided them by 12. Monthly prices in US dollars, from namecheap.com/hosting/shared/eu and the namecheap.com homepage on 19 Oct 2026. The pages we read don't say whether tax is included.

What we found

Each finding links to the Namecheap page it came from. Prices are the US-dollar prices on namecheap.com; the pages we read don't say whether tax is included.

An AI read Namecheap's public pages to write these findings. When something is partly clear or not seen, it may be explained on a page we didn't read, or our scan may have missed it.

Honest pricing

Partly clear · 5 pts

The EU shared hosting page shows Stellar at $2.28/mo billed yearly, with $26.88 for the first year and "renews at $55.88/year". The homepage shows the same kind of renewal line for VPS and EasyWP plans, such as VPS Spark at $3.88/mo, renewing at $58.56/year. The main shared hosting page leads with a 30-day free trial and "Then $2.28/mo", and we didn't see a renewal price next to that offer. A help article lists the renewal prices that apply from 19 May 2026. We didn't see whether prices include tax or VAT.

Who runs it

Partly clear · 5 pts

The footer and the About page name Namecheap, Inc., at 4600 East Washington Street, Suite 300, Phoenix, AZ 85034, USA. The hosting terms say the agreement is with Namecheap, Inc. and its affiliates. The About page says Namecheap began in 2000 and has more than 2,600 staff across 18 countries. We didn't see a company registration number or the state where the company is registered on the pages we read.

Problems

Uptime in public

Clear · 10 pts

Namecheap publishes a public status feed, grouped by service, such as Shared Servers, EasyWP, Hosting and Network Issues. Posts are labelled Planned, Ongoing or Resolved, and the main feed showed entries from June to October 2026. It is a list of posts, not a dashboard with a live status per component, and we didn't see uptime percentages there. The shared hosting page lists a 100% uptime guarantee, and the VPS spec table lists 99.9%.

People

Reachable support

Partly clear · 5 pts

Support is offered 24/7 through live chat and support tickets. The hosting terms say support is only available through live chat or a helpdesk ticket. We didn't see phone support, or any stated response or wait times, on the pages we read.

Price

Fair terms

Partly clear · 5 pts

Shared and VPS hosting have a 30-day money-back period for first-time accounts, at Namecheap's discretion. Add-ons, upgrades and bundled domain fees are not refunded. Refunds go to your Namecheap account balance by default. Plans renew automatically for the same term, and the hosting terms say to cancel by billing ticket at least 3 working days before renewal. The refund policy allows renewal refunds within 48 hours and says a prorated refund "may be provided upon consideration" in other cases, while the EasyWP page mentions 24 hours after a renewal. We didn't see EasyWP named in the refund policy.

Data

Backups you can use

Clear · 10 pts

On shared hosting, Namecheap makes system backups every 3 to 7 days for accounts under 25 GB and 200,000 inodes, for server recovery only. Stellar Plus and Stellar Business add AutoBackup, which keeps 6 daily, 3 weekly and 5 monthly backups that you can restore or download yourself. Restoring is free for active accounts and costs $15.00 for suspended or terminated ones. EasyWP lets you create, restore and download backups from its dashboard. On VPS, you can ask for the latest internal backup, and offsite backup storage comes with Complete Management, offered on Quasar and higher plans.

Data

Security basics

Clear · 10 pts

Shared plans include 50 free standard SSL certificates for one year, set up automatically, and Imunify360 security. EasyWP includes free Let's Encrypt SSL, for Namecheap domains for now, plus a web application firewall, and Turbo and up add malware cleanup. Your account supports two-factor login with an authenticator app (TOTP) or a security key (U2F).

Data

Data location

Clear · 10 pts

A help article names the data centres: Phoenix in the US, Amsterdam, Farnborough in the UK, and Singapore. The shared hosting page lets you pick a US, EU, UK or Singapore data centre. VPS and dedicated servers are listed in Phoenix only, and we didn't see EasyWP's location. A GDPR data processing addendum supplements the terms, with EU and UK standard contractual clauses for data sent outside the EEA.

VPS plans list cores, RAM, storage and bandwidth as numbers, from 1 core, 1 GB RAM and 20 GB SSD on Spark. For shared plans, the Acceptable Use Policy gives the CPU, memory, process and inode limits, such as 1 GB RAM on Stellar. Stellar Plus storage is listed as "unmetered", and the policy caps media, archive and database files at 10 GB each. Bandwidth is "unmetered" on all shared plans, and we didn't see a stated limit. The EasyWP plan cards list 2 vCPU and 8 GB RAM on every plan, while the feature text says Turbo and Supersonic get more.

Easy exit

Clear · 10 pts

On shared hosting, cPanel lets you download a full backup with all files, databases, email accounts and settings. EasyWP lets you download your files and database as TAR archives. To move a domain away, you unlock it and request the auth code from the Sharing & Transfer tab, after the usual 60-day wait. We didn't see a fee for moving a domain away. Some country domains, such as .UK and .DE, follow a different process.

What you get per plan

Storage and websites come from the shared hosting page. CPU, memory, process and file limits come from the Acceptable Use Policy. Bandwidth is listed as unmetered on all three plans. Bars compare each row against the largest plan.

Tech stack

Best for WordPress and PHP sites

Hosts are built for different kinds of sites. Here is what Namecheap says it runs, and on which plans. Tech fit is separate from the signal score.

Best fit: tools built for it on regular plansSupported: runs on some plans, with limitsVPS plans: you set it up yourself on a server

WordPress

Best fit

EasyWP is managed WordPress hosting with NVMe storage, caching, a CDN, a firewall and dashboard backups. Shared plans install WordPress in one click with Softaculous.

Plans: EasyWP Starter and up; all shared plans

Docker & self-managed servers

VPS plans

VPS plans give root access on AlmaLinux, Ubuntu or Debian, so you set up your own software. We didn't see Docker mentioned on the VPS page. The smallest VPS has 1 core, 1 GB RAM and 20 GB SSD.

Sales practices

Worth a closer look

We check five common sales practices and note them next to the score, without changing it. Two need a pass through checkout, which this scan didn't do. We'll add them on the next recheck.

  • Noticed
"Unlimited" without a stated limit. Bandwidth is listed as unmetered on all shared plans, and we didn't see a limit. Stellar Plus storage is also unmetered, with file-type caps in the Acceptable Use Policy.
  • Not checked yet
Add-ons ticked for you at checkout. This scan didn't go through checkout.
  • Not checked yet
Prices that change at the payment step. The pages we read don't say whether tax is included. We didn't check the final checkout total.
  • Not noticed
Countdown timers that reset. No timers on the pages we read. The shared hosting page shows a "Limited time only" label on its free trial.
  • Not noticed
Reviews with no source. Homepage testimonials carry a name and company, and are about domains. The "Rated 4.7 out of 5" badge links to Shopper Approved, though the customer count differs between pages.
