Web hosting review

Liquid Web

Liquid Web sells VPS, cloud, dedicated and managed WordPress hosting. Its site clearly explains server specs, its public status page, support channels and response targets, security tools and data centre cities. Harder to pin down were managed WordPress prices, which didn't show on the plan cards we read, a money-back guarantee, how backups can be downloaded, and a company registration number.

What we found

Each finding links to the Liquid Web page it came from. Prices are the dollar prices on liquidweb.com; the pages we read don't name the currency or say whether tax is included.

An AI read Liquid Web's public pages to write these findings. When something is partly clear or not seen, it may be explained on a page we didn't read, or our scan may have missed it.
Price

Honest pricing

Partly clear · 5 pts

The pricing page shows the intro price next to the regular monthly price for VPS, cloud and dedicated servers. The intro discount lasts 2 months: the 4 GB RAM VPS is $8.50/mo for 2 months, then $17/mo. The product pages for the same servers show only the regular price, and promotions are for new accounts only. Managed WordPress shows "Starting at $9/mo", but the plan cards we read showed no dollar figure. We didn't see the currency named or a tax note on the plan pages; the terms say you pay government fees and assessments.

People

Who runs it

Partly clear · 5 pts

The terms say you sign with Liquid Web, LLC, or one of its brands, under Michigan law. The notice address is 2703 Ena Drive, Lansing, Michigan 48917. The FAQ and press kit say Liquid Web was founded in 1997 and is based in Lansing, and the site footer reads "Liquid Web, LLC by Nexcess Corp." The contact page lists a corporate office at 21700 Melrose Avenue in Southfield, Michigan. We didn't see a company registration number on the pages we read.

Problems

Uptime in public

Clear · 10 pts

A public status page tracks core services, hosting platforms, networks and four data centres, and lists recent incidents with timed updates. On 21 Oct 2026 it showed an open incident from 20 Oct about a security patch that stopped some parent servers from restarting, plus resolved email and maintenance items earlier in October. It links to a full history page and offers email, SMS, Slack and RSS alerts. The SLA promises 100% network uptime, with a credit of 10 times the downtime, capped at the monthly fee, if you ask within five business days. Product pages give different uptime figures, from 99.88% to 99.999%.

People

Reachable support

Clear · 10 pts

Support is available 24/7/365 by chat, support case in the portal, and phone. The contact page lists phone numbers for the Americas, Australia, the UK and international callers, and separate chats for sales, technical support and billing. The SLA page says Liquid Web aims to answer chats in under one minute and help desk tickets within one hour, but says these targets aren't part of the SLA. We didn't see which languages support is offered in.

Price

Fair terms

Partly clear · 5 pts

We didn't see a money-back guarantee in the terms of service, which say all services are non-cancellable and fees non-refundable. Orders renew automatically for the same term, or month to month, and either side can stop a renewal with 30 days' written notice. Ending a term early costs 100% of the remaining monthly charges, or of the prepaid amount. A help article says you can destroy a server yourself in the portal straight away, which reads differently from the 30-day notice in the terms. A Michigan tariff document on the site mentions a 30-day money-back guarantee for shared hosting only, and we couldn't tell if it applies to today's plans.

Data

Backups you can use

Partly clear · 5 pts

Managed WordPress and WooCommerce plans list daily backups, kept for 14 days on Pro and 30 days on Elite. For servers, the VPS page lists automated backups for fully managed plans only. Cloud Backups run once a day, kept 7 days by default, and are billed per GB, but we didn't see the rate. Acronis backups are a paid add-on, with storage from $6/mo for 100 GB in Liquid Web's cloud, and dedicated servers start at 500 GB. We didn't see whether restores cost extra or how to download a backup, and the terms say you are responsible for keeping your own backups.

Data

Security basics

Clear · 10 pts

Liquid Web says it offers a free, auto-renewing Let's Encrypt SSL certificate, and managed WordPress plans include free SSL and daily malware scans. Two-factor login for the account portal works with an authenticator app, is free for all customers, and is something you turn on yourself. Every server includes the base ServerSecure service. Stronger malware protection is paid: Imunify360 PLUS for Linux is $33/mo as a limited-time offer, down from $66/mo, and Server Secure PLUS for Windows is $50/mo.

Data

Data location

Clear · 10 pts

The data centre page names nine Liquid Web locations, including Amsterdam, London and West Sussex in Europe, and recommends choosing the one closest to your users. The terms say services are hosted in the US except in Amsterdam, London and Sydney. The terms require a Data Protection Addendum before you host GDPR-covered data, and a GDPR article says a pre-signed DPA can be downloaded in the customer portal. The privacy policy says Liquid Web follows the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. The about page and press kit give other totals, 22 and 18 data centres, which may include sister brands.

Real specs

Clear · 10 pts

VPS, cloud and dedicated plans list vCPU or CPU model, RAM, SSD storage and bandwidth as numbers. The 4 GB RAM VPS has 2 vCPU, 80 GB SSD and 3 TB of bandwidth, and the smallest managed dedicated server has a 4-core Xeon E-2134, 12 GB RAM and 383 GB SSD. Inbound traffic is unmetered, and outbound bandwidth is listed per plan. Managed WordPress plans list monthly visitors, storage and bandwidth, such as 50,000 visitors, 15 GB and 2 TB, but no CPU or memory. Dedicated plans list "Unlimited sites with InterWorx" without a stated limit.

Easy exit

Partly clear · 5 pts

To move a domain away, you click Transfer in the portal, which unlocks the domain and sends the EPP code to the registrant email; we didn't see a fee or waiting period. A help article shows how to export a database with phpMyAdmin or mysqldump. The cancel article warns that destroying a server is permanent, so you need your own copy of files, databases and email first. Ending a term contract early costs the remaining monthly charges. Some help links for managed WordPress backups and cPanel backups sent us to a separate Nexcess documentation site we couldn't read, so we didn't see how to download a full site.

What you get per plan

vCPU, memory, storage and bandwidth come from the pricing and VPS pages; backups come from the VPS page's comparison table. These are the three VPS plans on the pricing page. Bars compare each row against the largest plan.

Tech stack

Best for WordPress and PHP sites

Hosts are built for different kinds of sites. Here is what Liquid Web says it runs, and on which plans. Tech fit is separate from the signal score.

Best fit: tools built for it on regular plansSupported: runs on some plans, with limitsVPS plans: you set it up yourself on a server

WordPress

Best fit

Managed WordPress and WooCommerce plans include automatic WordPress updates, staging sites, a self-serve migration tool, a Cloudflare CDN, a firewall and Patchstack virtual patching. Each plan is for one site, with options for up to 25 sites.

Plans: Managed WordPress, from $9/mo

PHP

Supported

The managed hosting page says support covers almost any PHP-based application, and managed servers come with InterWorx, cPanel or Plesk. The application stack page lists PHP 5.6 to 7.4 and "8+", without naming plans.

Plans: Managed applications and managed servers

Node.js

VPS plans

The Node.js page sells the regular VPS plans with root access, from the 2 GB RAM VPS at $11/mo, and links to guides for installing Node.js yourself. You can choose self-managed or fully managed support.

Plans: VPS, from $11/mo

Python

VPS plans

The application stack page lists Python 2.7, 3.4 and 3.6 for the Liquid Web cloud, which are older versions, without naming plans. We didn't see a Python hosting product or setup guide, so Python means running it on your own server.

Plans: VPS and dedicated servers

Docker & containers

VPS plans

The container hosting page lists Docker, Kubernetes, Podman and containerd as supported, and says containers run on many Liquid Web servers and on a VMware private cloud. It shows no container plans or prices and asks you to talk to a solutions architect.

Plans: Servers and private cloud, priced on request

Sales practices

Worth a closer look

We check five common sales practices and note them next to the score, without changing it. Two need a pass through checkout, which this scan didn't do. We'll add them on the next recheck.

  • Noticed
"Unlimited" without a stated limit. Dedicated plans list "Unlimited sites with InterWorx" and the VPS FAQ says you can host unlimited sites, without a number. Inbound traffic is unmetered, but outbound bandwidth is listed per plan.
  • Not checked yet
Add-ons ticked for you at checkout. This scan didn't go through checkout. Backups, malware protection and SSL upgrades are listed as separate add-ons with their own prices.
  • Not checked yet
Prices that change at the payment step. The plan pages don't say whether tax is added. The VPS page title says "Starting at $5/mo", but the lowest price we saw on it was $11/mo. We didn't check the final checkout total.
  • Not noticed
Countdown timers that reset. No timers on the pages we read. Plans carry "50% off 2 mos" labels, and Imunify360 PLUS is called a limited-time offer, without an end date.
  • Noticed
Reviews with no source. Most quotes carry a name, job title and company. Some are credited only to "Ben J" or "AG, Verified customer", and on the VPS page the same quote appears under both "AG" and a named agency principal.

Questions to ask Liquid Web
