Web hosting review

Kamatera

Kamatera sells cloud servers you configure yourself, billed monthly or by the minute. Its site clearly explains plan specs, its no-refund policy, how to cancel, and its 21 data centre cities, with a published data processing agreement. A few things were harder to pin down from the website alone: whether prices include tax, a company address and registration number, support response times, backup prices, and account two-factor login, which a help article says isn't built in.

Price over time

No intro price, so nothing jumps at renewal

Kamatera shows one price per plan, with no intro discount and no renewal price. There is no minimum term: servers are prepaid monthly or billed hourly by the minute. Monthly prices in dollars from kamatera.com/pricing on 21 Oct 2026; the page doesn't say whether tax is included.

What we found

Each finding links to the Kamatera page it came from. Prices are the dollar prices on kamatera.com/pricing, which doesn't say whether tax is included.

An AI read Kamatera's public pages to write these findings. When something is partly clear or not seen, it may be explained on a page we didn't read, or our scan may have missed it.
Price

Honest pricing

Partly clear · 5 pts

Kamatera has no intro price and no renewal price: the listed price is what you keep paying. Preset plans start at $4/mo for Basic, then $25/mo for Standard and $39/mo for Pro, and you can also configure your own server. Monthly servers are prepaid, hourly servers are billed by the minute, and there is no long-term contract. Extra traffic costs $0.01 per GB and extra storage $0.05 per GB a month. The pricing page doesn't say whether tax is included; the terms mention Israeli VAT for customers in Israel and a 2% administration fee on the invoice amount, without saying clearly who it applies to.

People

Who runs it

Partly clear · 5 pts

The terms say Kamatera works through affiliated companies worldwide, and that US customers are served by Kamatera Inc., a US company. The privacy policy and the data processing agreement name Kamatera Inc. and its affiliates. The About page says parent company The OMC Group was founded in 1995 and launched Kamatera in 1996. The terms use Israeli law and Tel Aviv courts. We didn't see a company address, a registration number, or which company EU customers sign with on the pages we read.

Problems

Uptime in public

Partly clear · 5 pts

The support page and the SLA link to a public status page at status.kamatera.com, but it couldn't be read by our scan, so we didn't see its incident history. The SLA promises 99.9% availability, allowing up to 8 hours of downtime a year. Compensation is one month of the affected service, up to $5,000 and once every 12 months, claimed in writing within 14 days. The cloud servers and data centre pages mention 99.95% uptime instead.

People

Reachable support

Partly clear · 5 pts

Technical support is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, by phone (US, UK and Israeli numbers), by email at support@kamatera.com, and through tickets in the cloud console. The support page also mentions chat, without a link. The sales page says sales usually reply within an hour or two on weekdays, and sometimes take up to 24 hours. We didn't see stated response times for technical support on the pages we read. A managed service option adds 24/7 monitoring, with no price listed.

Price

Fair terms

Clear · 10 pts

The terms say all fees are non-refundable unless stated otherwise, and monthly servers aren't refunded for the current month. Instead of a money-back period there is a 30-day free trial for one server worth up to $100; the terms mention a refundable $10 deposit and the product page asks for a credit card. Services are billed automatically every month, and you're charged after the trial unless you terminate your servers. You can disable your account in the console once no servers or balance remain, or cancel by email. The terms allow price changes that take effect immediately.

Data

Backups you can use

Partly clear · 5 pts

Daily backups are a paid add-on, kept for up to 14 days, at a monthly cost based on the server's specs; we didn't see the actual price. With this service, Kamatera's support team restores the whole server or single files for you. You can also take snapshots and revert to them yourself in the console, or clone a disk to your image library, but we didn't see a schedule or retention period for those. The terms say backups can't be guaranteed and that you're responsible for backing up your data.

Data

Security basics

Partly clear · 5 pts

A help article says Kamatera doesn't offer built-in two-factor login for account access, and shows how to add it to SSH logins on your own server instead. Another guide shows how to set up Let's Encrypt certificates yourself with Certbot. A basic firewall is free in the console, and managed firewalls cost $15/mo (OPNsense) or $157.80/mo (Sophos). We didn't see malware scanning for servers on the pages we read.

Data

Data location

Clear · 10 pts

The data centres page lists 21 locations by city, including Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, Madrid, Milan, Stockholm and Bucharest in Europe, and you choose one when you set up a server. A published data processing agreement covers the GDPR and uses the EU standard contractual clauses for transfers. It says Kamatera won't move your data out of the locations you choose, except to provide the service or comply with law. Support can move a server to another location on request.

Real specs

Clear · 10 pts

Each preset plan lists vCPUs, CPU type, memory, NVMe SSD storage and monthly traffic as numbers. The $4 Basic plan has 1 vCPU (Type A), 1 GB of memory, 20 GB NVMe SSD and 5 TB of traffic. The cloud servers page says a server can go up to 104 vCPUs, 128 GB of memory and 4,000 GB of storage. The FAQ calls traffic "unlimited" up to 5,000 GB a month, and says you're billed for all traffic if incoming traffic is over 33% of the total.

Product

Easy exit

Partly clear · 5 pts

You can disable your account yourself in the console, and we didn't see a fee for leaving. The FAQ says you can download your data from the server, but not the server itself as an image. A migration guide shows how to move files with rsync and export databases with mysqldump. The terms say you must arrange the transfer of your data before you leave. Kamatera doesn't appear to register domains: its domain guide assumes a domain from another registrar.

What you get per plan

All numbers come from the Kamatera pricing page. These are its three preset plans; every server can also be configured with other amounts. Bars compare each row against the largest plan.

Tech stack

Best for self-managed cloud servers

Hosts are built for different kinds of sites. Here is what Kamatera says it runs, and on which products. Tech fit is separate from the signal score.

Best fit: tools built for it on regular plansSupported: runs on some plans, with limitsVPS plans: you set it up yourself on a server

WordPress

VPS plans

The WordPress app sets up Ubuntu 24.04, nginx, PHP 8.3 and MySQL 8.0 on a cloud server you manage, with a WordPress Multisite option. A managed service checkbox lets Kamatera manage the operating system. We didn't see managed WordPress hosting on the pages we read.

Plans: Cloud servers

PHP

VPS plans

The LAMP app installs Ubuntu, Apache 2.4, PHP 8.1 and MySQL 8.0 with root access. Images with cPanel preinstalled are also offered, and the page doesn't say whether the cPanel licence costs extra.

Plans: Cloud servers

Node.js & Python

VPS plans

Ready-made Ubuntu 24.04 images come with Node.js 25 or 22, or Python 3.14 or 3.12, on a server you manage. We didn't see a managed app platform for Node.js or Python on the pages we read.

Plans: Cloud servers

Sales practices

Worth a closer look

We check five common sales practices and note them next to the score, without changing it. Two need a pass through checkout, which this scan didn't do. We'll add them on the next recheck.

  • Not noticed
"Unlimited" without a stated limit. The FAQ calls traffic "unlimited" but gives a 5,000 GB monthly limit with it. "Unlimited Scaling" on the homepage is a heading, not a plan resource.
  • Not checked yet
Add-ons ticked for you at checkout. This scan didn't go through checkout. App pages mark the managed service and daily backups as "highly recommended" options.
  • Not checked yet
Prices that change at the payment step. The pricing page doesn't say whether tax is included, and the terms mention a 2% administration fee on invoices. We didn't check a final invoice.
  • Not noticed
Countdown timers that reset. No timers or sale banners on the pages we read.
  • Noticed
Reviews with no source. Most reviews name a person or company and a platform such as Trustpilot or G2. A 98% satisfaction figure is credited to "all platforms" without naming them.
