Web hosting review

Hosting.com

Hosting.com publishes a detailed plan comparison with CPU, memory, storage and backup numbers, a status page with past incidents, and clear steps for security and leaving. Harder to pin down were shared plan prices, which didn't load for our reader, renewal prices, a company registration number and which data centres shared plans use. The legal pages name A2 Hosting, LLC, and the terms and plan pages give different notice periods and money-back rules.

What we found

Each finding links to the Hosting.com page it came from. Prices are the US-dollar prices on hosting.com; the refund policy says fees are calculated in US dollars, and we didn't see whether tax is included.

An AI read Hosting.com's public pages to write these findings. When something is partly clear or not seen, it may be explained on a page we didn't read, or our scan may have missed it.
Price

Honest pricing

Partly clear · 5 pts

Prices on the shared plan cards load in the browser, and our reader saw none, so we couldn't check whether renewal prices sit next to intro prices. A page comparing A2 Hosting and hosting.com plans lists Starter at $3.99/mo, Pro at $6.99/mo and Max at $8.99/mo on a 1-year term, without renewal prices; a blog post updated in June 2026 gives $1.99/mo for Starter in the first year. The comparison page says the renewal price is shown before you buy, and the billing FAQ says promotional prices are for new orders only. The refund policy says fees are calculated in US dollars, and we didn't see whether tax is included.

People

Who runs it

Partly clear · 5 pts

The service terms, privacy policy and company details page name A2 Hosting, LLC, a Delaware company trading as hosting.com, at 1201 North Market Street, Suite 111-N73, Wilmington, Delaware. The terms are governed by Delaware law, and the privacy policy names Hosting Holding Germany BidCo GmbH in Cologne as its EU representative. The About page says A2 Hosting was founded in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in 2003, and that hosting.com brings World Host Group and A2 Hosting under one brand. We didn't see a company registration number or named leaders on the pages we read.

Problems

Uptime in public

Clear · 10 pts

A public status page tracks 21 components in six groups, from cPanel and VPS hosting to email, DNS and the support channels. All were operational when we looked, and it lists past incidents with timed updates, such as a performance issue on 16 Oct 2026 that was resolved in 18 minutes. The Server Maintenance Policy targets 99.9% uptime and gives a credit of 5% of the monthly fee per full hour of unscheduled downtime, capped at one month's fee, if you open a ticket. The plan comparison page lists a 99.95% uptime commitment for shared plans.

People

Reachable support

Clear · 10 pts

Support is available 24/7/365 by live chat, phone (+1 734 222 4678) and tickets, and the support policy says none of these cost extra. The homepage gives an average chat response time of under one minute for Q3 2026. An AI assistant, Orbi, is on every plan and connects you to the in-house team when you need a person. The support policy itself states no response targets, and one section says tickets may wait until business hours resume.

Price

Fair terms

Partly clear · 5 pts

The money-back page gives new customers 30 days on shared, WordPress, email and reseller hosting, and excludes domains, VPS plans, dedicated servers, SSL certificates and third-party products. The plan comparison page instead lists a 7-day money-back guarantee for its own-server and bare metal plans. Plans renew automatically; the terms ask you to cancel through the online form in the customer panel at least one day before renewal, while the termination clause asks for 15 days' notice. The billing FAQ says services already provided and renewals aren't refunded after the guarantee. The money-back page's own description mentions a prorated refund for 90 days, which we didn't see in the page text.

Data

Backups you can use

Clear · 10 pts

The plan comparison page lists daily backups kept for 30 days on all shared plans, with self-serve restore and backup download included. In the Hosting Panel you restore website files, email or databases yourself from the Backups tab, and cPanel accounts with JetBackup can download backups to a computer. We didn't see a fee for restores. The service terms cap complimentary cPanel backups at 50 GB in total and say keeping your own backups is your responsibility. On unmanaged VPS plans, the VPS page says backups are up to you.

Data

Security basics

Clear · 10 pts

Every plan includes a free SSL certificate, a ModSecurity firewall and Monarx malware detection and removal, per the plan comparison page, and Max adds a premium SSL certificate. Two-factor login for the Hosting Panel works with an authenticator app; the help article doesn't mention recovery codes or another method. Managed WordPress adds a WordPress firewall and continuous malware monitoring and cleanup.

Data

Data location

Partly clear · 5 pts

The plan comparison page names six data centre locations for shared and own-server plans: USA, Singapore, London, Sydney, Mumbai and Frankfurt. A help article names Arizona, Michigan, Amsterdam and Singapore instead and says you pick a data centre at sign-up, while the Managed WordPress FAQ lists ten locations, including Canada, Mexico and the UAE. The refund policy lists a $25 fee to move to another data centre. A GDPR help article says a data processing agreement is available if you open a support ticket. The privacy policy names an EU representative in Cologne and relies on standard contractual clauses and the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

Real specs

Partly clear · 5 pts

The plan comparison page gives numbers for each shared plan. Starter has 2 virtual CPU cores, 2 GB RAM, 15 GB NVMe storage, 5 websites, 200,000 inodes and 50,000 monthly page views; Max has 4 cores, 8 GB RAM, 100 GB and 50 websites. Bandwidth is "Unlimited", and the terms define unlimited by comparison with similar customers. The terms also cap shared hosting at 600,000 inodes and 35 concurrent connections, while the comparison page lists 1 million inodes for Max. VPS plans list cores, RAM and NVMe storage, from 2 cores, 4 GB and 80 GB on the smallest unmanaged plan.

Product

Easy exit

Clear · 10 pts

The plan comparison page lists backup download and upload on all shared plans, and the Hosting Panel lets you download files and open phpMyAdmin for databases. On cPanel accounts, JetBackup lets you download backups to your computer. To move a domain away, you unlock it in the panel and request an EPP code, which is sent to the registrant email; UK domains use an IPS tag change. We didn't see a fee for moving a domain away, and the terms say data in accounts that aren't renewed is removed from the servers.

What you get per plan

These numbers come from the plan comparison page, which lists daily backups with 30-day retention on every plan. The service terms set a lower inode cap for shared hosting than the page lists for Max. Bars compare each row against the largest plan.

Tech stack

Best for WordPress and PHP sites

Hosts are built for different kinds of sites. Here is what Hosting.com says it runs, and on which plans. Tech fit is separate from the signal score.

Best fit: tools built for it on regular plansSupported: runs on some plans, with limitsVPS plans: you set it up yourself on a server

WordPress

Best fit

Shared plans include an AI website builder for WordPress, with staging and the WordPress Toolkit from Pro up. Managed Hosting for WordPress is a separate product with one-click staging, WP Rocket, Object Cache Pro and Cloudflare Enterprise CDN, and each site runs in its own container.

Plans: All shared plans and Managed WordPress

PHP

Best fit

Shared plans list multiple PHP versions up to 8.5, with SSH, Git and WP-CLI included and no root access. In the Hosting Panel you set up SSH keys or a password under Developer tools.

Plans: All shared plans

Node.js

Supported

The plan cards list Node.js support from Pro up, and the comparison page lists multiple Node.js versions. The Node.js page names frameworks such as Next.js, Vue.js and Astro, with MySQL or PostgreSQL, but doesn't say how apps are started.

Plans: Shared, from Pro

Python

Supported

Help articles set up Django and Flask on cPanel shared accounts with the Python Selector and Passenger. The Django guide says the setup is tested but not supported, and its example uses Python 3.8. We didn't see Python on the plan pages.

Plans: cPanel shared accounts

Docker & containers

VPS plans

Shared plans have no root access. The VPS page says managed and unmanaged VPS plans have full root access, from 2 cores, 4 GB RAM and 80 GB NVMe unmanaged. The Docker help article covers managed Dedicated servers with root access and says the setup isn't supported.

Plans: VPS and Dedicated

Sales practices

Worth a closer look

We check five common sales practices and note them next to the score, without changing it. Two need a pass through checkout, which this scan didn't do. We'll add them on the next recheck.

  • Noticed
"Unlimited" without a stated limit. Shared plans list unlimited monthly bandwidth, and own-server plans list unlimited websites, inodes and mailboxes. The terms define "unlimited" by comparison with similarly situated customers, without a number.
  • Not checked yet
Add-ons ticked for you at checkout. This scan didn't go through checkout.
  • Not checked yet
Prices that change at the payment step. The comparison page says the renewal price is shown before you buy and that you're billed in your local currency. We didn't check the final checkout total.
  • Not noticed
Countdown timers that reset. No timers on the pages we read. The coupons page says the promotional price is for the first term only and renews at the regular rate.
  • Noticed
Reviews with no source. The homepage Trustpilot rating links to Trustpilot. Customer quotes on the homepage and plan pages show only a name, with no source or date; case-study quotes give a name and company.

Questions to ask Hosting.com
