Web hosting review

HostDime

HostDime sells cloud servers, dedicated servers and colocation from its own data centres in six countries. Its dedicated server pages list flat monthly prices with CPU, memory and storage numbers, its terms explain cancelling and fees in detail, and its managed services page gives ticket response targets per tier. Harder to pin down were cloud prices per plan, a money-back guarantee, backup retention, a GDPR data processing agreement and a status page we could read.

Price over time

No intro price, so nothing jumps at renewal

HostDime shows one monthly price per dedicated server, with no intro discount and no renewal price. The plan pages don't state a term; the terms say services renew for the same length. Monthly prices in dollars, with no tax note on the plan pages, from hostdime.com/self-managed-dedicated-servers on 21 Oct 2026.

What we found

Each finding links to the HostDime page it came from. Prices are the dollar prices on hostdime.com; the plan pages don't name the currency or say whether tax is included.

An AI read HostDime's public pages to write these findings. When something is partly clear or not seen, it may be explained on a page we didn't read, or our scan may have missed it.
Price

Honest pricing

Partly clear · 5 pts

Dedicated server pages show one monthly price per plan, with no intro discount: self-managed servers start at $129/mo and the same server with the managed tier is $289/mo. The plan pages don't state a term, a currency code or a tax note. The terms say services renew for a period of equal length and that taxes are added to the fees, while the cloud FAQ says the USA branch currently charges no tax or VAT. Cloud is billed hourly from a prepaid balance with a $20 minimum deposit, but we didn't see a price per plan or per resource; the homepage says cloud starts at $35.51/mo and the cloud VPS page says $35 a month.

People

Who runs it

Partly clear · 5 pts

The terms are with HostDime Global Corp. and are governed by Florida law. The contact page and privacy policy give an address at 440 West Kennedy Blvd, Suite 1, Orlando, FL 32810, and the privacy policy also names SurpassHosting.com, LLC. The company page says HostDime was founded in 2003, and the history page says its first data centre opened in Orlando that year. We didn't see a company registration number on the pages we read.

Problems

Uptime in public

Partly clear · 5 pts

We didn't see a link to a public status page on the pages we read, and a status address on status.hostdime.com didn't allow our scan to read it. The SLA promises 99.9% network availability and credits up to the monthly fee, claimed within seven business days through core.desk@hostdime.com. Hardware replacement starts within 1 to 2 hours of a report, with 5% of the fee back for each extra 2 hours of downtime. The SLA was last revised on 1 Nov 2012.

People

Reachable support

Clear · 10 pts

Support is reachable by phone, email at core.desk@hostdime.com and live chat, and the contact page lists support hours as 24 hours, Monday to Sunday. Sales works weekdays 8AM to 6PM EST and accounting weekdays 8AM to 5PM EST. The managed services page gives ticket response targets: within 4 hours on Managed, 2 hours on Fully Managed and 1 hour on Fully Managed Enterprise. Self-managed servers get best-effort support, and extra admin work costs $100 to $250 per hour depending on the tier.

Price

Fair terms

Partly clear · 5 pts

We didn't see a money-back guarantee for servers or cloud on the pages we read; the terms say setup fees and third-party fees aren't refundable. Services renew for the same length unless you cancel with five days' written notice before the term ends, using the cancellation form in your CORE account. Cancelling within 90 days of ordering costs $250, and requests are processed within 72 hours. Late fees are $50 for dedicated and colocation and $25 for VPS after four days, and a chargeback adds $150. The terms were last revised on 24 Feb 2026.

Data

Backups you can use

Partly clear · 5 pts

The backup retention policy, last revised in Dec 2016, says shared servers get daily and/or weekly backups, with a $50 restore fee unless the loss was caused by hardware. VPS and dedicated servers aren't backed up by default, and cloud backups are off by default. Backup as a Service, using Veeam, costs $35/mo with 50 GB of storage and $5 per extra 50 GB. On cPanel servers you can make and download your own backups. We didn't see backup retention periods on the pages we read, and the terms say backing up your data is your job.

Data

Security basics

Partly clear · 5 pts

A help article says cPanel servers can get free domain-validated SSL through cPanel's AutoSSL, powered by Sectigo; paid certificates start at $30 per 6 months. cPanel accounts can turn on two-factor login with an authenticator app, but we didn't see two-factor login for the CORE client account on the pages we read. The server security page describes a CSF firewall, ModSecurity and RKHunter rootkit scans, and the managed services page includes this hardening from the Managed tier up. Sucuri malware cleanup is sold separately from about $16/mo.

Data

Data location

Partly clear · 5 pts

The global page names data centres in Orlando and Los Angeles in the USA, São Paulo and João Pessoa in Brazil, Guadalajara in Mexico, London, Bogotá and New Delhi. You pick a country by product: cloud runs in the USA, Brazil, Colombia and Mexico, and each country has its own dedicated server page. The privacy policy covers EU, UK and Swiss data transfers under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. We didn't see GDPR or a data processing agreement mentioned on the pages we read.

Real specs

Partly clear · 5 pts

Dedicated server plans list the CPU model, cores and threads, clock speed and memory: the cheapest has an Intel Xeon E3-1230 V5 with 4 cores, 8 threads and 16GB RAM. All plans list 480GB SSD or 1TB HDD, 75Mb/s (about 25TB) of monthly bandwidth and 4 usable IPs. We didn't see the word "unlimited" on the plan pages. Cloud servers list 10TB of monthly bandwidth and one IPv4 address, but we didn't see vCPU, memory or storage numbers behind the starting price.

Easy exit

Clear · 10 pts

On cPanel servers you can download a full backup, your home directory and each database yourself, and dedicated servers come with full root access when self-managed. To move a domain away, you turn off Registrar Lock in CORE and request the EPP key, which is emailed to the domain's WHOIS address; we didn't see a fee for this. The terms ask you to download your data before your service ends, and say cancelling within 90 days of ordering costs $250. The data migrations page covers moving data to HostDime, not away from it.

What you get per plan

All numbers come from the self-managed dedicated server page. These are the three cheapest servers; the managed versions have the same hardware. Bars compare each row against the largest plan.

Tech stack

Best for running your own servers

Hosts are built for different kinds of sites. Here is what HostDime says it runs, and on which plans. Tech fit is separate from the signal score.

PHP

Supported

Managed tiers include control panel support and LAMP stack support, and the cPanel server comes with a cPanel license from $174/mo. On self-managed servers you set up PHP yourself.

Sales practices

Worth a closer look

We check five common sales practices and note them next to the score, without changing it. Two need a pass through checkout, which this scan didn't do. We'll add them on the next recheck.

  • Not noticed
"Unlimited" without a stated limit. Server pages list bandwidth as a number, about 25TB a month for dedicated and 10TB for cloud. "Unlimited" appears only for subdomains on a wildcard SSL certificate.
  • Not checked yet
Add-ons ticked for you at checkout. This scan didn't go through checkout. The server pages say management options are chosen at checkout.
  • Not checked yet
Prices that change at the payment step. The terms say taxes are added to the fees, while the cloud FAQ says the USA branch charges no tax or VAT. We didn't check the final checkout total.
  • Not noticed
Countdown timers that reset. No timers on the pages we read. Dedicated server pages carry a "Best Value" label.
  • Not noticed
Reviews with no source. We didn't see customer reviews or testimonials on the pages we read.
