Hetzner has no intro price and no renewal price: the listed price is what you keep paying. The cheapest Cost-Optimized cloud server, CX23, is €5.49/mo (€0.0088/hr) in Germany and Finland, plus €0.50/mo for a public IPv4 address. Cloud servers are billed by the hour, capped at the monthly price, with no minimum term; dedicated servers add a one-time setup fee, such as €49 on the AX42-1 at €97.30/mo. The docs say all prices exclude VAT, and the June 2026 price rise applied to new orders, not to servers already rented. The plan pages and the web hosting page didn't show price amounts in the text we could read, so we took prices from Hetzner Docs.
Web hosting review
Hetzner
Hetzner is a German host for cloud servers, dedicated servers and web hosting. Its site and docs clearly explain who runs it, where data is stored, the GDPR agreement, security basics and its prices, which have no intro discount. A few things were harder to pin down from the website alone: support response times, refunds after you cancel, downloading backups, and web hosting prices, which didn't show in the page text we could read.

Price over time
No intro price, so nothing jumps at renewal
Hetzner shows one price per plan, with no intro discount and no renewal price. There is no minimum term: cloud servers are billed by the hour and capped at the monthly price. Monthly prices in euros for Germany and Finland, without VAT and without the €0.50/mo IPv4 address, from the price adjustment page in Hetzner Docs on 20 Oct 2026. The cloud plan pages didn't show price amounts in the text we could read.

What we found
Each finding links to the Hetzner page it came from. Prices are the euro prices for Germany and Finland listed in Hetzner Docs, without VAT.
The legal notice names Hetzner Online GmbH at Industriestr. 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, Germany. It gives the register entry, HRB 6089 at the Ansbach Registration Office, the VAT number DE 812871812, and three CEOs by name. The terms apply to all business with Hetzner Online GmbH, with extra terms for US customers. The data protection docs say Hetzner US LLC and Hetzner Singapore Pte. Ltd. are subsidiaries, and Hetzner Online GmbH stays your contract partner.
A public status page lists open incidents, notices and resolved incidents by day, each tagged with the system it affects, such as Cloud Server, Object Storage, Robot or Webhosting. When we looked, it showed three open items, including a vSwitch issue and router maintenance, about a week of resolved incidents, and notices going back to 2024. We didn't see uptime percentages on the status page. The Cloud service agreement sets a 99.9% monthly availability target with Cloud Credits for downtime, and the general terms aim for 99.9% yearly network availability.
Customer service takes calls on +49 (0)9831 505-0, Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm CET, and support requests from the Console, Robot or konsoleH panels. Ticket support runs 24/7/365 for cloud products, and data-centre technicians work 24/7 for dedicated servers, with 24-hour phone lines in Nuremberg, Falkenstein and Helsinki for customers with a phone password. People without an account use an AI chatbot on the support page. Among web hosting plans, only XL lists telephone support. We didn't see stated response times on the pages we read.
Contracts run until you cancel, and the US terms say they renew automatically. Notice is 30 days to the end of the month unless a product sets another period: cloud servers stop billing when you delete them, dedicated servers end immediately, and konsoleH lets you pick "Immediately" or a later date for web hosting. There is no money-back guarantee; the terms give a 14-day right of withdrawal, with a pro-rata charge for a service already started. Domains are billed for a full year whenever you cancel. We didn't see whether unused prepaid fees are refunded after a normal cancellation.
Cloud backups are an add-on at 20% of the server price. They run daily and keep seven copies, and you restore or clone a server from one in the Console; snapshots are billed per GB a month and kept until you delete them. Web hosting includes daily backups kept for 14 days, and you restore files, emails and databases yourself in konsoleH. For dedicated servers, the terms say backups are your job. We didn't see whether a restore costs extra, or a way to download backups or snapshots.
Web hosting accounts get free Basic or Let's Encrypt certificates that renew automatically, and the web hosting page lists virus scans. Account login supports two-factor login: the guide covers YubiKey setup, lets you use several methods at once, and gives you a recovery key. DDoS protection is free for all customers, and Cloud Firewalls cost nothing. We didn't see malware scanning for cloud or dedicated servers, which you run yourself.
Hetzner runs its own data centre parks in Falkenstein and Nuremberg in Germany and in Helsinki, Finland, which the dedicated server page says are ISO 27001:2022 certified. Cloud servers can also run in Ashburn, Hillsboro and Singapore, in third-party facilities, and you pick the location when you create a server. You conclude a GDPR data processing agreement under Art. 28 yourself in the Accounts panel by ticking a box. The docs say non-cloud products store data only in the EU, and customer and billing data stays in the EU.
Every cloud plan lists vCPUs, memory, NVMe storage and included traffic: CX23 has 2 vCPUs, 4 GB RAM, 40 GB NVMe and 20 TB of traffic in the EU. Dedicated pages give the CPU model, memory, disks and port speed; the AX42 has an 8-core AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 8700GE, 64 GB DDR5 ECC and 2 × 512 GB NVMe, with unlimited traffic on a 1 Gbit/s port. Web hosting plans list storage, databases, PHP processes and PHP memory limits, from 10 GB and 2 PHP processes on S. We didn't see a traffic figure for web hosting, and the web hosting launch article lists unlimited mailboxes and transfer volume without a stated limit.
You can export databases yourself as .sql files with phpMyAdmin, or with mysqldump on plans with SSH, and copy files off a cloud server with scp or rsync. To move a domain, you cancel it in konsoleH with the transfer option, and the auth code appears once the cancellation is complete; .de codes stay valid for 30 days and .eu codes for 40. We didn't see a fee for moving a domain away. We also didn't see a way to download a full backup or snapshot, and the docs say data can't be recovered after you cancel.

Tech stack
Best for PHP sites and servers you run yourself
Hosts are built for different kinds of sites. Here is what Hetzner says it runs, and on which plans. Tech fit is separate from the signal score.
PHP
Best fitEvery web hosting plan runs PHP 5, 7 or 8 with many extensions, from 2 PHP processes on S to 20 on XL, with Varnish caching. L and XL add Redis and SSH login.
Plans: Web hosting S to XLWordPress
SupportedWeb hosting includes a one-click WordPress installer, and the page names Varnish as a cache for WordPress. The cloud app list also has a WordPress image for a server you manage yourself. We didn't see managed WordPress with staging sites.
Plans: All web hosting plansNode.js
SupportedNode.js runs on Web hosting L and XL and on Managed Servers. You set it up in konsoleH and pick from several installed versions, such as 20, 22 and 24. Turning it on for a domain switches off PHP and HTML apps on that domain.
Plans: Web hosting L and XLPython
SupportedWeb hosting offers a CGI interface for Perl, Python and Ruby. We didn't see a guide for Python frameworks such as Django or Flask on web hosting.
Plans: All web hosting plans (CGI)Docker & containers
VPS plansThe Docker CE app boots a cloud server on Ubuntu 24.04 with Docker and Docker Compose installed, and you log in over SSH. Coolify, GitLab CE and a LAMP stack are also in the app list.
Plans: Cloud servers, from €5.49/moSelf-hosted apps
VPS plansDedicated servers have no minimum term and a choice of 64-bit systems such as Debian, Ubuntu and AlmaLinux, with Windows Server as an add-on. Cloud servers can start from an OS image, a snapshot or an app.
Plans: Dedicated and cloud serversSales practices
Worth a closer look
We check five common sales practices and note them next to the score, without changing it. Two need a pass through checkout, which this scan didn't do. We'll add them on the next recheck.
- Noticed"Unlimited" without a stated limit. Web hosting lists unlimited mailboxes, which share the plan's storage, and the launch article lists unlimited transfer volume without a figure. Dedicated servers list unlimited traffic on a 1 Gbit/s port.
- Not checked yetAdd-ons ticked for you at checkout. This scan didn't go through checkout. The server creation guide lists backups as a setting you choose.
- Not checked yetPrices that change at the payment step. Listed prices exclude VAT, and a cloud IPv4 address adds €0.50/mo. We didn't check a final invoice.
- Not noticedCountdown timers that reset. No countdown timers on the pages we read. The homepage says Server Auction prices drop over time, with a "Reduction in:" label.
- Not noticedReviews with no source. The cloud page quote carries a name and company. The homepage lists awards by name and year.
Questions to ask Hetzner
Each partly clear or unseen signal leaves a question that the website didn't answer for us. Hetzner's support can probably answer them before you buy.

This report covers what Hetzner publishes, as read by an AI. It can miss things or misread a page. We didn't host a test site, so it says nothing about real speed or how helpful support feels.
