Web hosting review

Hawk Host

Hawk Host shows renewal prices next to intro prices, lists CPU, memory and inodes for each shared plan, and runs a public status page with past incidents. Harder to pin down were support response times, a company registration number, a data processing agreement and the steps for leaving. Its help articles loaded without their text, so some findings rely on the article summaries.

Price over time

Shared hosting renews at 2.2 to 2.9 times the intro price

This is common in hosting, and Hawk Host shows both prices on its plan cards. These intro prices need a 36-month term paid upfront; shorter terms cost more per month and renew higher. Monthly prices in US dollars, with no tax note on the plan cards, from hawkhost.com/shared-web-hosting on 21 Oct 2026.

What we found

Each finding links to the Hawk Host page it came from. Prices are the dollar prices on hawkhost.com, which the terms say are US dollars; we didn't see a tax note on the plan pages.

An AI read Hawk Host's public pages to write these findings. When something is partly clear or not seen, it may be explained on a page we didn't read, or our scan may have missed it.
Price

Honest pricing

Clear · 10 pts

Each shared plan card shows the renewal price next to the term price. Starter is $1.99/mo on a 36-month term, $71.69 paid upfront, and renews at $4.53/mo; on a 12-month term it is $2.61/mo and renews at $5.22/mo. Month-to-month prices are shown without a separate renewal price. The terms say payments are in US dollars and Canadian customers pay GST/HST; we didn't see a tax note on the plan cards. The terms also let Hawk Host raise fees at renewal, and say it will try to notify customers at least ten days ahead.

People

Who runs it

Partly clear · 5 pts

The terms and the contact page name Hawk Host Inc., formed under the laws of the Province of Ontario, with an address at 100 King Street West, Suite 5700, Toronto. The About page says Hawk Host was founded in 2004 and names Tony Baird as CEO. The privacy policy names no legal entity or address, and the governing-law sentence in section 19 of the terms reads as incomplete. We didn't see a company registration number on the pages we read. A help article offers Hawk Host Inc.'s HST tax number, but we couldn't read its text.

Problems

Uptime in public

Clear · 10 pts

A public status page at hawkhoststatus.com tracks shared web hosting and cloud hosting in seven locations, and all were operational when we looked. It lists past incidents by year, 26 since 2023, each with its own page and duration. The latest was a Los Angeles network issue on 12 Sep 2026 that lasted 2h 56m. The SLA promises 99.9% uptime, with credits from 10% at 99.8% up to 100% below 99%. You claim by opening a ticket within seven days, and scheduled maintenance doesn't count.

People

Reachable support

Partly clear · 5 pts

Plan pages promise 24/7/365 support by live chat, support ticket and email. The contact page lists sales, support, billing and abuse departments, and the About page lists a phone number, 1-800-859-8803, which the contact page doesn't show. We didn't see stated response times on the pages we read. A help article covers support department hours, but we couldn't read its text. The terms say Hawk Host doesn't offer technical support for application-specific issues.

Price

Fair terms

Clear · 10 pts

The terms give a 30-day money-back guarantee on the first payment for shared, reseller, semi-dedicated and VPS/cloud services, and no other services are covered. A help article summary lists only shared, reseller and semi-dedicated plans. After that, payments are non-refundable, and accounts that break the terms or exceed their resource quotas may not qualify; where a refund can't go back to the original payment method, you get account credit. Plans renew automatically for the same length as the first term unless either side gives written notice. A help article says you cancel by sending a request from the client area, but we didn't see how far ahead of renewal you need to do this.

Data

Backups you can use

Clear · 10 pts

Shared, semi-dedicated and WordPress plan pages list daily offsite backups. The terms say Hawk Host makes a good-faith effort to keep seven days of backups through software you can access, and the backup policy article's summary describes a 7-day rolling Acronis snapshot of files, databases and email. A help article explains restoring files and databases yourself from Acronis Backup inside cPanel. The terms charge $10 per service to restore data for a terminated or unpaid service. We didn't see backups mentioned on the Cloud VPS page.

Data

Security basics

Clear · 10 pts

Shared and WordPress plans include free Let's Encrypt SSL certificates. Two-factor login for the client area works with an authenticator app such as Google Authenticator or Authy, and the help center has a separate guide for cPanel two-factor login. Every shared plan card lists Imunify360 proactive malware scanning and defense. A help article describes automatic background scanning, real-time upload protection and malware cleanup in cPanel.

Data

Data location

Partly clear · 5 pts

The hosting locations page names seven data centres: Dallas, Los Angeles, New York City, Toronto, London, Singapore and Hong Kong. Each offers web hosting, semi-dedicated, reseller and cloud hosting, and the page says this lets you choose a facility close to your audience. The privacy policy doesn't mention GDPR or say where customer data is stored. A help article summary says Hawk Host complies with GDPR, but we couldn't read its text, and we didn't see a data processing agreement.

Real specs

Shared plan cards list NVMe storage, CPU cores, memory, I/O, processes and inodes as numbers. Starter has 15 GB, 1 CPU core, 2 GB memory and 500,000 inodes, and Max has 130 GB, 8 cores and 10 GB memory. Bandwidth, databases, domains and email accounts are listed as unlimited without a stated limit; the terms only say you may not use excessive system resources for an extended period. The older Professional plans list unlimited NVMe storage with 1 core and 1 GB memory. Cloud VPS plans list vCPU, RAM, NVMe and bandwidth: the 1 GB plan has 1 vCPU, 30 GB NVMe and 2 TB of traffic.

Easy exit

Partly clear · 5 pts

Help articles cover making a full cPanel backup of files, databases and email, and finding a domain's EPP code in the client area to move it to another registrar. We could only read the summaries of these articles, not the steps. We didn't see a fee for moving a domain away, and the domains page only covers transfers to Hawk Host. The terms say data for unpaid services is kept on a best-effort basis for up to 30 days past the renewal due date, then removed.

Sales practices

Worth a closer look

We check five common sales practices and note them next to the score, without changing it. Two need a pass through checkout, which this scan didn't do. We'll add them on the next recheck.

  • Noticed
"Unlimited" without a stated limit. Shared plans list unlimited bandwidth, databases, domains, email accounts and mailbox storage. The terms say you may not use excessive resources for an extended period, but give no number for these. CPU, memory, processes and inodes do have stated limits.
  • Not checked yet
Add-ons ticked for you at checkout. This scan didn't go through checkout.
  • Not checked yet
Prices that change at the payment step. Promo prices rely on coupon codes in the sign-up links, and the terms say Canadian customers pay GST/HST. We didn't check the final checkout total.
  • Not checked yet
Countdown timers that reset. The shared and high-performance hosting pages show a countdown in days, hours, minutes and seconds under "Hurry up, reserve your spot with this great offer!", with no end date. We didn't check whether it resets.
  • Noticed
Reviews with no source. The reviews page shows six quotes credited to a first name and initial, with no date or link, and an average rating of 4.7/5 without a source. Most homepage quotes carry a first name only. The Trustpilot rating of 4.8/5 links to Trustpilot.
